Sand. Surf. Sun.

Sunday Sept. 8, 2013

Here we are on our first full day in the Outer Banks!  Had a decent night's sleep.  I am battling a big allergy attack.  Using all of my homeopathic stuff and essential oils to fight it off.  It's no fun to be sick on vacation!

Here is our house, the Laughing Gull!

All the houses are on stilts here.  With the hurricanes and water, it is necessary.  We have to go up 2 flights to even get in.  That top deck has pretty good views!  That is off the living room and master bedroom.  If you look to the right, you see the ocean over the dune.  To the left and kind of behind our house you can see the Pamlico Sound.

It's better in real life :)

In case you ever wondered, can you feel a house on stilts move when the wind blows or people walk around?  Why, yes, yes you can.  A bit unsettling.  But so far we are still alive.

We went to the beach, of course!  It's not a long walk, but half of it is over the dune, through the sand. It's harder than I always think it will be!

Here is our path:

Then into the dunes!

Now comes the good part.  The Atlantic Ocean.  There is nothing like an ocean to make you feel small and amazed!  God is so good.

Photobombed by Lea :)
And take 2.  Photobombed by Lainie :)
A man and his thoughts.

When we were here in May in the past, we saw a few of these sand crab Dudes.  They are much more active in September!  They are everywhere, like right by our feet, yikes!  This little guy was as big as my thumb nail.  They are fun to watch.  They throw sand out of their holes constantly.

Aw!  Sister Love!
Lainie is terrified of moths.  Have you ever seen a moth on the beach?  Me neither.  But sure enough, a giant moth came out of nowhere and landed right on Lainie.  Really?  There were more screams on the beach from Lainie!

Next stop was the Avon Pier.  It is really cool!  We watched the fishermen and women and the surfers.

This is not a trick of the camera.  The pier actually looks this wavy!
Looking down the beach towards our house.  It's over there somewhere!

I wish I could bottle the ocean sounds.  It's so loud with the crashing waves.

We went to the realty company to check out their pool.  We get to use it for free.  It was nice and clean.  We will be sure to use it this week.

We went for a treat of self serve Froyo.  I guess it's a trend everywhere!  It was good of course.  We had to laugh when a dude came in and got the biggest cup and it was overflowing.  It cost him almost $14!  We wondered if he realized that as he was filling it up!

Lainie and Daddy went back to the beach for awhile and Lea and I had naps :)

Ate a late dinner then watched a movie.  I was then up most of the night with a cold/allergy thing.  But I don't want to remember that.  Instead I will focus on the good stuff!

  1. Your pictures make it almost, but not quite, as good as being there. (OK, so being there is 1000 times better...a girl can try, right?) Just wish I could feel that ocean breeze. :)
